Özet

Today, the target of the research and development activities is to improve the energy efficiencies both in upstream and downstream
processes. Researchers investigate the efficient, economical, safe and environmental friendly alternative downstream techniques to overcome the
physical and chemical bottlenecks of the classic downstream processes. Pervaporation is an effective and energy saving membrane separation
process to separate azeotrope mixtures, close boiling mixtures or isomers. It is also applied to remove the volatile organic compounds from water
or to separate organic-organic mixtures. The separation efficiency by a pervaporation system is primarily a function of the membrane material
and the feed species. Feed temperature, feed composition, and permeate pressure have secondary effects. Permeation rate is inversely
proportional to membrane thickness but selectivity is said to be independent of thickness. Process temperatures affect both pervaporation
membrane selectivity and permeant flux. Hydrophilic, hydrophobic and organophilic membranes are used in pervaporation applications.
