The association between consumption of fruits and vegetables and reduction in the risk of several diseases particularly cancer has been studied
extensively over the past several years. Broccoli has gained importance for protection against cancer due to its rich vitamin and mineral content as
well as sulforaphane (4-methylsulphinylbutyl isothiocyanate) content. Sulforaphane is a plant secondary metabolite known to have anticarcinogenic
properties and naturally occurs in cruciferous vegetables, broccoli in particular. The aim of the current study is to provide updated information on
the importance of broccoli, that has been studied extensively over the last decade, in delivering potential health benefits.
