Abstract

INSV is a tospovirus, transmitted by thrips species and causing destructive disease of ornamental plants and some vegetable crops in different continents. For a long time, the genus was considered to be monotypic, consisting only of TSWV. However, discovery of a second tospovirus, INSV, was followed by description of an increasing number of tospoviruses in different parts of the world. INSV causes significant losses on a great variety of glasshouse ornamentals and vegetables in many countries, wherever vector is present to act as a vector.
