Plant secondary metabolites are highly demanded raw materials in many industries such as healthcare and food. In order to meet this
heavy demand, there have been ever increasing in vitro plant tissue culture studies which contribute to the production of large amounts of
secondary metabolites that are produced scarcely in the plants. Studies regarding the plant tissue culture techniques have been integrated with
the technology, leading to the improvement of bioreactor technology. In this study, the types and importance of plant secondary metabolites
have been briefly explained and the use of plant tissue culture techniques in secondary metabolite production has been exemplified.
Eventually, the definition, historical development and various types of bioreactors, along with the current successful bioreactor practices
used at the industrial scale have been explained beginning from the laboratory scale.
