Determination of plant characteristics that can tolerate drought stress and studies on plant species with high yielding
characteristics have gained importance in recent years. Changes in the biochemical, genetic and physiological mechanisms
of plants should be well known in breeding studies in the culture and selection of plant species resistant to drought stress.
These are the (1) morphological and physiological changes, (2) cytological changes, (3) biomolecular responses, (4) hormonal
responses, and (5) genetic responses. The aim of this study is to summarize the response of the plants to water stress and to
contribute to the work towards developing a resistant biotechnological product by providing a better understanding of the
changes observed in plants.
