Lawsonia Inermis’ te lawsone adındaki oldukça etkin bir kimyasal maddenin varlığının tespit edilmesiye bu bitki popülerlik kazanmıştır. Lawsonia Inermis’ te Lawsone’nun yanı sıra kinonlar, fenilpropanoidler, flavonoidler, terpenoidler, fenolikler, yağ asitleri, karbonhidratlar, proteinler, tanenler, alkaloitler, ksantanlar, kumarin, glukozitler, naftokinon, saponinler, triterpenoidler, steroller ve dioksin türevleri bulunmaktadır. Lawsonia Inermis’in, tıbbi kullanımları için kökler, çiçekler, gövde kabuğu ve tohumlar yetiştirilmektedir. L. inermis'in fitokimyasal bileşenleri, analjezik, antienflamatuar, hepatoprotektif ve hipoglisemik özelliklerinden sorumludur. Bitkinin ayrıca antibakteriyel, antifungal, immünostimülatör, antioksidan ve sitotoksik aktivite gösterdiği de ifade edilmektedir. Bu özelliklerin L. inermis bitkisinde bulunması, çeşitli patojenik organizmalara ve hastalıklara karşı tedavide kullanılmasına yönelik çalışmaların yapılmasına öncülük edebileceğinin göstergesidir. Bu derleme bitkinin farmakolojik özellikleri hakkında bilgi vermeyi amaçlamaktadır.
