KEDİ VE KÖPEKLERİN SİNDİRİM SİSTEMİNDEKİ PROTOZOON ENFEKSİYONLAR

Kedi ve köpeklerin sindirim sistemindeki protozoon kaynaklı enfeksiyonlar hayvanların refahı açısından ishalden ölüme kadar değişebilen birçok rahatsızlığa neden olmaktadır. Türkiye kedi ve köpeklerin sindirim sitemini hedef alan protozoonların yaşamlarını sürdürebilmeleri için gerekli olan arakonak, uygun iklim, ısı, nem, oksijen ve coğrafi yapıya sahiptir. Küçük hayvan hekimliğinin gelişmesi ile kedi ve köpeklerin protozoon kaynaklı hastalıklarına olan ilgi artmaya başlamıştır. Kedi ve köpekler, giardiosis, tritrichomonosis, cryptosporidiosis, isosporosis, toxoplasmosis, amebiosis, sarcocystosis, neosporosis gibi enfeksiyon etkenlerinin bazılarında arakonaklık, bazılarında son konaklık, bazılarında ise hem arakonak hem de son konaklık yaparlar. Kedi ve köpeklerin son konaklık yaptığı bazı protozoon enfeksiyonlar ruminantları hedef alarak ağır ekonomik kayıplara neden olabilirler, bazıları ise zoonoz özelliklerinden dolayı insanlar için risk teşkil ederler.
Laboratuvarda flotasyon gibi basit teşhis yöntemlerinden ELISA, IFAT, polimeraz zincir reaksiyonu (PZR) gibi gelişmiş yöntemlerin sayesinde protozoal etkenlerin teşhisine gidilebilir. Uygun ilaç uygulamaları ve çevre bulaşının azaltılması sayesinde kedi ve köpeklerin protozoon kaynaklı protozoal enfeksiyonlarının önüne geçilebilir.
