Since soil management systems infl uence soil physical fertility, it is important to determine the effect of
long-term organic fertilizer amendments on soil physical properties such as water-holding capacity. Addition of
organic materials of different origins to soil has been one of the most common rehabilitation practices to improve
soil physical properties. This is essential to sustaining the productivity of soils particularly in arid and semi- arid
regions where there is low input of organic matter. As regard soil water content, the infl uence of organic matter
on soil physical properties depends upon amount, type and size of added organic materials.
The aim of this review was to defi ne relationship between soils have water-holding capacity and soil organic matter.
