Abstract

In Islamic legal thought ıjttihad (juristic reasoning) has a significant role. It’s
the most important function is to provide dynamism for the law thought. At the first
periods ıjtihad method puted into practise successfully by the Islamic jurists. But
afterwards emerged a thought that the “gate of ıjtihad” is closed. This thought affected
the ıjtihad negatively. In this article we deal with the theoretical dimension and
historical development of ıjtihad.
