Abstract

In this article, the foundation of religious education department in theology faculties in Turkey, its development as an academic discipline and its contribution to the field are mentioned. Within this framework, 1) the knowledge of religious education under historical context; 2) the foundation and development of Religious Education Department as an academic field; 3) as an academic discipline, the sources of religious education knowledge, methodology, terminology, and its agenda;4) the contribution of Religious Education Department to national and international level of Theology and Religious Education.
